Miniature Schnauzer (Horse cut)

In order to have this cut, you will have to keep your schanuzer hair longer from the head to the back, moustache, all the legs and brisket.

Before groom, there are a lot of accessive hairs and the coat is not smooth.
Before grooming

First, clip away all the accessive hairs at the sanitory part and also clip out an alignment of the style wanted to have. Then follow up with the cleaning procedures such as brushing, combing, bathing and air dry.

After clipping

After cleaning up, trim all the remaining coats into a more refine condition and use a thinning shear scissors to cut the edges.

After grooming

Cut the top head into a rounded shape and be careful not to cut off their eye brows.

After grooming the head

There are many different styles for different dog breed. Do think of the style you wanted to have before you bring your fur-kid to the saloon.

Professional Pet Groomer Practical Exam

I am currently learning pet grooming skills in a Pet grooming school in Kuala Lumpur.  To be a certified Professional Pet Groomer, I have to pass two exam, which are the theory and practical exam.

Very happy that I already passed my theory part, now waiting for my turn to take my practical exam (which worried me most!).

The practical exam will only hold twice a year as need to schedule time with the Judge from Japan.
Some of his Qualifications of the Judge are
–         Federation of JKC Northern Osaka, former Vice President.
–         JKC Northern Osaka Official Dog Club, Representative.
and etc etc.
Judge for Practical exam

On the day of the practical exam, the candidates came earlier to draw the number that represent the poodle dog they will be grooming later. This is based on luck whether they will get a quiet or fierce poodle. Once everyone get their dog, they will start with normal cleaning steps such as bath, comb, brush and air dry their dog. These are important steps in pet grooming, if this step not done properly, it will affect the following cutting or clipping procedures.

Once everyone done the cleaning part, They will proceed to the most important part which determine their grooming skills, which are the cutting and clipping steps.

Waiting......

Before the exam started, they were brief on the following criterias and procedures need to aware of:

  • The process of cutting/trimming and clipping had to finish within two and half hour.
  • Grooming tools such as comb and scissors cannot drop on the floor.
  • Marks deducted if the dog fell from table.
  • The way of handling the dog.( As dog will tend to struggle, see how to hold the dog)
  • If you get an “inco-operate” dog (such as fierce and biting dog) and you manage to finish all your chores within the given time, extra marks will be given.
  • Appearance marks will based on front, back, side and top view of the dog.
  • If the dog feels happy after grooming, extra marks will be given too!!
  • and etc etc.
Briefing

The results were announced after the exam finished. No matter what is the results, but this experiences will bring everyone a step further because we have a better understanding on the criterias and things need to be aware of.

Hachikō, the Akita

Many years ago, I was listening to the radio, I heard the DJ sharing the story of the great Hachiko in Japan which waited for his long passed away master to return home in a railway station for 9 years. Ever since, the story remain in my mind as I am so touch and overwhelm by it’s uncondition love and loyalty.

Today, my admiration towards Hachiko arise again after I watched the movie ”Hachiko: A Dog’s Story” starring Richard Gere.

This is a remake of the 1987 Japanese film Hachikō Monogatari which is based on Hachiko’s true story. The story begins with Professor Parker Wilson found a lost Akita dog at the train station and keep it as nobody claims it. Later he named it “Hachiko” as translates the symbol on the pup’s collar. Everyday Hachi  accompanied his master to the train station and return each evening to greet him after work. One day, sadly his master departs, passes away and never returns to the station. Hachiko faithfully returns to the same spot at the station the very next day, and every day for the next nine years to wait for his beloved master.

This film is about loyalty and the strong bond between the Proffessor and Hachiko. This faithfulness friendship is the quality we should learn.

I highly recommend everyone to watch this movie and remember to prepare some tissues because you will cry especially during the last part of the movie!!

A photo of the the actual Hachikō and a bronze statue in his likeness was erected at Shibuya Station.

Hachiko’s legendary faithfulness became a symbol of loyalty. His story teaches us the qualities of unconditional love, gratitude, integrity and loyalty.

Lassie, the Collie

This is 11th movie about Lassie. It is a remake of the 1943 film, Lassie Come Home.

Rough Collie  breed, Lassie‘s classic character first appeared in “Lassie Come Home” novel,  a character created by Eric Knight in 1940. The novel proved so popular that a filmversion was made in 1943, in which the male dog Pal played the female Lassie—a gender-bending role that he would continues in six more films and two television series.

This story is about an intelligent, heroic collie and his young owner going through life’s obstacles, experiences and adventures. It also delivered about loyalty, honesty, perseverance, poverty, and loving or respecting animals. This is the best movie that parents can use to teach their children about loving kindness, appreciation and gratitude.

When I was small in early 1990-s, the TV was showing the series Lassie once a week during the night time. Every week, I was so thrill when it’s time for the show and I cried if I missed any of the episodes.

Lassie had bring me so much joys, excitements and passion towards dogs during my childhood. This passion continues and leading me to become a pet groomer nowaday.
